Jared Campbell

Adventure athlete, engineer, clean energy enthusiast, and sole four-time finisher of the Barkley Marathons.

Jared Campbell is a Utah-based adventure athlete who is drawn to combining and applying multiple skills to accomplish seemingly impossible projects, from high-alpine linkups to multi-modality routes in the desert. In his teens and twenties, a healthy obsession with rock climbing took him across the globe. This led to bigger mountain linkups and, eventually, ultrarunning. He has completed over 35 100+ mile ultramarathons; he is the youngest ten-time finisher of the Hardrock 100 and the only three-time finisher of the Barkley Marathons.

Jared has put his passion for endurance running to work in an effort to help the fight for improved air quality. The result is a fascinating series of endurance events coordinated by a non-profit group called Running Up For Air. This collection of events was created to amplify informed dialogue and empower organizations actively working on air quality solutions. The race platform is used to expose participants and the general public to science-based material about the importance of healthy air and drive active participation in advancing solutions.

Outside of his athletic endeavors Jared is a father, engineer, and clean energy geek. Professionally, Jared is the Director of a cross-functional engineering team in the wireless communications industry and his team designs equipment used at sea, on land, air, and in space. As a series of passion-projects, Jared has designed and built multiple net-positive solar powered homes, which produce more energy than they consume. Each project has concluded with data collection on their performance followed by actively sharing his findings with the public in an effort to accelerate our transition to an energy positive society.
